President Vladimir Putin told his colleagues from China and Mongolia about the progress of work on the construction of the Soyuz Vostok gas pipeline.

“Currently, Gazprom is finalizing the details of the project with the Chinese and Mongolian sides,” he said.

According to the Russian leader, Moscow considers it promising to develop cooperation with Beijing and Ulaanbaatar in the energy sector. Thus, Putin added, there are good opportunities to increase cross-border electricity supplies to China and Mongolia.

“Following the results of this year, we predict that the growth of energy transfers from Russia to your countries, dear friends, will already be about 20 percent, up to 5.2 billion kilowatts,” the president said.

Putin’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh took place on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Samarkand.

“Soyuz Vostok” will be a continuation of the Russian gas pipeline “Power of Siberia 2”. It will pass through the territory of Mongolia and will allow China to supply up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Construction is expected to start in 2024. The length of the route in Mongolia will be 962.9 kilometers, the diameter of the pipes is 1400 millimeters, five compressor stations are expected.
