Fire engulfed a hotel building at the Kartalkaya ski resort on Tuesday night. Many of the guests tried to escape from the burning hotel using sheets tied together like ropes. The Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu was regularly checked, fire services found no defects, Turkey’s Minister of Tourism and Culture Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said earlier. On Wednesday, Turkey declared national mourning for the victims.

“The necessary investigations have been launched to study the disaster in all aspects. Our prosecutors and chief inspectors are conducting a multifaceted investigation. Those who caused this pain to our people due to negligence in their duties will definitely answer before the court. Fourteen people have been detained,” the Turkish leader said, speaking on Friday in Malatya.

According to him, “quarrels” against this background would be disrespectful to the mourners.

“We don’t think it’s right to play politics in the face of such a sad event. Getting into a quarrel with someone would be disrespectful to the grieving families,” Erdogan said, addressing the opposition.
