France opposed the demilitarization of Ukraine

France will not agree to Ukraine becoming demilitarized in the future, French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu said, commenting on the future of the Ukrainian armed forces.

“The first guarantee of security remains the Ukrainian army. We will be against any form of demilitarization of Ukraine,” he said, speaking at the opening of the Paris Forum on Security and Strategic Issues. The broadcast was carried out on the page of the Ministry of Defense in the social network X.

In June 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin took initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine: Moscow will immediately cease fire and declare its readiness for negotiations after the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territory of new regions of Russia. In addition, the Russian leader added, Kiev should declare its rejection of intentions to join NATO, it should demilitarize and denazify, as well as adopt a neutral, non-aligned and nuclear-weapon-free status. Putin also mentioned the lifting of sanctions against Russia in this context.
