The Constitutional Court of Romania has rejected complaints against the registration of Calin Georgescu as a presidential candidate, according to the website of the state agency.
⠀
“At a meeting on March 8, 2025, the Constitutional Court, within the limits of its powers to comply with the procedure for electing the President of Romania, considered the appeals. Based on the results of the discussion <… The court unanimously rejected the complaints as inadmissible,” the statement said.
⠀
It is noted that the court’s decision is final and will be brought to the attention of the Central Election Commission of Romania.

Last November, the first round of presidential elections was held in the republic. Its leader was independent candidate Georgescu, who won 22.94 percent of the vote thanks to an active campaign on TikTok. The second place was taken by Elena Lasconi with 19.18 percent, who advocates strengthening partnership with NATO and the United States. On December 6, the country’s Constitutional Court annulled the results of the vote under the pretext of “serious violations“, which are allegedly confirmed by declassified documents of the Supreme Security Council.
⠀
The local prosecutor’s office then launched an investigation into suspected interference in the politician’s election campaign through social media. Romanian intelligence agencies are talking about “possible Russian involvement.” Georgescu categorically denies this, calling the persecution political.
⠀
In January, the politician and his supporters began to hold protest actions, demanding that the authorities cancel the cancellation of the election results.
⠀
Last week, Georgescu was charged with six crimes, including spreading false information, as part of an investigation into the illegal financing of his election campaign. He is on his own recognizance for 60 days.
