Von der Leyen admitted that she has not yet met with Trump

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, admitted that she had never met with US President Donald Trump, but expects such a meeting “at the right moment.”

“I believe that we will meet when the right moment comes,” she said at a press conference in Brussels.

Ursula von der Leyen also said that she would hold the first meeting of the Board of European Commissioners in the near future, fully devoted to security issues, and such meetings would be held regularly in the future.

“In the coming weeks, I will convene the first meeting of the Board of European Security Commissioners. This will keep the members of the EC Board informed of the latest developments in the field of security, both internal and external,” von der Leyen said at a press conference in Brussels.

These meetings will also focus on defense, cybersecurity, foreign interference, and trade. According to her, such meetings are necessary to ensure “collective security.”

Von der Leyen has repeatedly made proposals to strengthen the role of European institutions in defense and security, despite the fact that these issues fall within the competence of the national governments of the EU member states, and not the Brussels bureaucracy.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made a proposal to raise 800 billion euros over four years to finance the plan for the “rearmament of Europe.” It is proposed to attract most of the funds from the budgets of European states. At the same time, the European Commission will provide budget breaks for EU countries, as well as redirect funds allocated for the development of regions to military spending.
