The head of the EC called the measures imposed against US duties proportionate

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU’s countermeasures in response to the US duties are “strong but proportionate.

“Duties are taxes. They have a negative impact on businesses and even worse on consumers. These duties disrupt supply chains. They bring uncertainty to the economy. Jobs are at risk. Prices will rise – both in Europe and in the United States,” Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement posted on the EC website.

The head of the EC added that the EU’s countermeasures in response to the US duties will be introduced in two stages, starting on April 1 and fully effective on April 13. According to her, the EU will respond to the US duties of $ 28 billion with countermeasures worth 26 billion euros.
