The country’s only nuclear reactor has been shut down in Poland

The only Polish nuclear reactor has been shut down due to the expiration of its license, a representative of the National Center for Nuclear Research said.

“The license issued by the State Atomic Energy Agency has expired. The reactor cannot operate without this document. That’s why it was stopped,” he said.

He expressed hope that the State Agency for Nuclear Energy would issue the necessary license soon and that the reactor would be operational again.
The only 30 MW Maria nuclear reactor in Poland, launched in 1974, is located on the territory of the National Center for Nuclear Research near Warsaw.

The reactor produces molybdenum-99, a radioisotope most commonly used in nuclear medicine.
