German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the telephone conversation between the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, but said it was necessary to involve the EU and Ukraine in a dialogue on conflict resolution.
⠀
“It’s good that the presidents called each other,” Scholz said.
⠀
According to him, everyone shares the desire to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible.
⠀
“But I stand by my position: Ukraine, as well as Europe, must definitely be involved in these negotiations. After all, we are talking about fundamental issues that relate to security and peace in Europe,” the Chancellor said.
⠀
He also expressed readiness to provide long-term support in strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the end of the conflict, stating that Ukraine “will need a strong army that will exceed its own financial capabilities.”
⠀
“International support will be needed on this issue,” Scholz argued.
