US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been called before Congress to testify as part of the investigation into the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, the House Homeland Security Committee said in a statement.
⠀
“Today, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green subpoenaed Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to testify to obtain documents and information about the failed security efforts in connection with the July 13 assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania” a published message said.
⠀
As stated in the letter signed by Green, the committee requested information from the ministry on the circumstances of the incident on July 14, but in response received only a “vague answer” about the impossibility of transmitting the requested information. Subsequent requests to the ministry remained completely unanswered.
⠀
“Insufficient cooperation is unacceptable and must stop,” the head of the committee emphasized.
⠀
Last Saturday, July 13, there was a shooting at Trump’s campaign speech in Pennsylvania, the ex-president was wounded in the ear, one of the spectators was killed, and two others were critically injured. The US Secret Service said it had killed a suspect who fired several shots towards the stage. He was reported to be hiding on the roof of a production building about 100 meters from the stage, outside the event area.
⠀
The FBI is investigating the incident as “an assassination attempt and possible domestic terrorism.” The FBI identified the suspect as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
