UAE: Abu Dhabi reopens beaches, parks

The United Arab Emirates confirmed 400 new coronavirus cases overnight after carrying out 56,000 additional tests, according to the state news agency WAM. Meanwhile, the capital city reopens parks and beaches.

To lift some restrictions caused by the coronavirus outbreak, Abu Dhabi authorities decided to re-open some parks and public beaches at a 40 percent capacity.

As of Friday morning, total coronavirus cases in the UAE are now at 49,469, while the death toll is at 317. The health ministry also confirmed an additional 504 patients have recovered from the illness, raising the total number of recoveries to 38,664.

In its efforts to reopen public places like parks, gardens and beaches, the UAE’s capital city has implemented measures to prevent the spread of the novel pathogen, indeed.

Umm Al-Emarat Park, Khalifa Park-Abu Dhabi, Salimi Park in Al-Ain and Madinat Zayed Public Park in Al-Dhafrah can now receive visitors and promenaders under a phased reopening of parks in the emirate.

Access to the parks however would dependent on prior online booking, and visitors would be required to present their coronavirus testing results via the AlHosn app as well as have their body temperatures taken.

Only groups of four people would be allowed to congregate and all visitors, as well as park staff, are required to wear masks and practice social distancing, authorities added.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Arab world comes together. The emirates authorities are trying to keep the community healthy. The local agri-tech company VeggieTech and popular restaurant Noodle House teamed up to start a Help Our Heroes, an initiative to supply fresh and sanitized produce to communities as well as to front-line workers in hospitals.

In addition, the UAE-based Hena Khan teamed up with a firm called Racheme to supply free hand sanitizers and disinfectants to low-income workers.
