Türkiye is fulfilling the requirements of the agreements on the Idlib de-escalation zone, to which it is a party, the country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that last Wednesday the government army entered into battle with terrorists who attacked the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. Violating the de-escalation agreement, groups belonging to the terrorist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) attacked villages, settlements and military positions on a wide front in the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. According to the Syrian military department, the army responded to the attack, and as a result, the terrorists suffered losses in manpower and equipment.

“Maintaining calm in Idlib and the neighboring region, which is located at the zero point of our border, is a priority issue for our country. Since 2017, a number of agreements regarding the Idlib de-escalation zone have been concluded. Turkey delicately fulfills the requirements of the agreements to which it is a party. We have done the necessary warnings on various international platforms that the recent attacks on Idlib have reached a scale that will damage the spirit and functioning of the Astana agreements and will lead to serious casualties among civilians, and we noted that these attacks must stop. In fact, the recent clashes have led to an unwanted escalation of tension in the region,” department spokesman Oncü Keceli said in a statement.
