The Armenian government supported the bill on accession to the EU.

The Armenian government supported the legislative initiative of pro-Western forces to begin the process of the republic’s accession to the European Union, which will be considered by parliament.

“To approve the proposal of the government of the Republic of Armenia on the draft law “On the beginning of the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union”. To transfer the government’s proposal in the prescribed manner to the apparatus of the National Assembly (Parliament),”  the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the draft of which was presented by the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry Ararat Mirzoyan , said.

According to him, in recent years, relations between Armenia and the EU have developed intensively and dynamically, the European Union has provided assistance to Armenia, in particular in the field of security, sending observers to the republic, and expressed its readiness to help economic development.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated that this decision does not mean the country’s membership in the EU, since this issue can only be resolved in a referendum. He also said that after the adoption of the bill, Armenia needs to develop an appropriate roadmap with the EU.

“With this decision we confirm that an independent foreign policy based on our interests, and it fits into the policy of balance and balance in foreign policy… The Cabinet of Ministers of Armenia is not against this initiative, especially since this initiative, especially since it comes from from the theses we announced,” Pashinyan said.
