The United States has exposed its image as a hegemon and despot by once again giving Cuba the status of a sponsor of terrorism, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a briefing on Tuesday.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump again granted Cuba the status of a country sponsor of terrorism, reversing the recent decision of his predecessor Joe Biden.

“As (Cuban) President Diaz-Canel noted, the purpose of the new US government’s resumption of the deceitful practice of listing Cuba as a country that sponsors terrorism is to continue the brutal economic war against Cuba to establish dominance over it,” Guo Jiakun said.

He said the move shows the disrepute of US unilateral lists and enforcement mechanisms.

“The repeated use of the so-called list of countries sponsoring terrorism and the arbitrary imposition of unilateral sanctions against Cuba is contrary to the facts and has no basis, fully revealing the image of the United States as a hegemon and a despot,” the diplomat said.
