Stoltenberg will be the guest of honor at Trump’s inauguration.

Former NATO Secretary General (2014 – 2024) Jens Stoltenberg, appointed head of the Munich Security Conference, will be present as a guest of honor at the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump personally invited Stoltenberg. The participation of the former NATO Secretary General, as the magazine notes, is quite surprising, since the Republican always made disparaging comments about the military bloc during his first presidential term, as well as during the last election campaign. At the start of his first term as president, he called the North Atlantic Alliance “obsolete.” Trump later accused the Europeans, particularly singling out Germany, of not investing enough in their own defense.

However, Stoltenberg still managed to maintain good relations with Trump during his time in office.

The former NATO Secretary General will take over as head of the Munich Security Conference after the 61st conference, which will be held from February 14 to 16. He called for continued close ties between the United States and Europe.

“As the future chairman of the Munich Security Conference, I am committed to the transatlantic relationship, especially in these important times,” Stoltenberg said.

Trump’s inauguration ceremony is scheduled for January 20. He won the presidential election on November 5, 2024, beating Democratic candidate US Vice President Kamala Harris. According to Politico, Trump invited many European right-wing politicians to the ceremony.
