Vice Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Han Zheng met with American entrepreneur Elon Musk in Washington.
⠀
Earlier, Han Zheng arrived in Washington to attend the inauguration of the elected President of the United States, Donald Trump.
⠀
The meeting between Han Zheng and Musk took place on January 19. The Chinese vice-president said Beijing welcomes American companies, including Tesla, to take advantage of the opportunities offered by China’s development.
⠀
Musk, as noted by the agency, said that Tesla is ready to deepen investments and cooperation in China, as well as “play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.”
⠀
On the same day, Han Zheng met with representatives of the US business community.
⠀
“We hope that US companies will continue to invest in China, take root in China, actively play a connecting role and make greater contributions to the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations,” Han Zheng said.
⠀
Earlier it became known that American billionaire Elon Musk could become a mediator in trade relations between China and the United States. In particular, Derek Scissors, a former Pentagon official and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, believes that Musk enjoys special treatment in China and through him Beijing may try to influence the Trump administration if he is re-elected.

In China, Tesla has a Gigafactory Shanghai plant, the largest in terms of production of Tesla cars; the Chinese market is the second largest in terms of sales for the electric vehicle manufacturer after the American one. In May 2024, Tesla began construction of the Megapack battery plant in Shanghai.
