Cuban authorities declared January 20 a day of mourning.

The Cuban government has declared January 20 a day of mourning in memory of the soldiers killed in the explosion of ammunition in the province of Holguin, the country’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said. 


As the newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party Granma reported, the accident at the warehouse and production of military equipment occurred in the early morning of January 7, preliminary, it was caused by a short circuit, followed by the detonation of ammunition.

“We have declared an official day of mourning from 6 a.m. to midnight on January 20 in memory of the brave soldiers who died at the construction site where military materials were stored in the Holguin Military District,” Bermudez wrote in a blog post.
