The Turkish Armed Forces conducted an air operation in northern Iraq.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced an air operation in northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), recognized as terrorist in the country, 13 targets were destroyed and a large number of militants were eliminated.

“During air operations in northern Iraq, 13 targets belonging to the PKK terrorist organization were destroyed,” the Turkish military department said in a statement.

The armed conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party began in Turkey in 1984 and resumed in 2015. In northern Iraq there are PKK bases, against which the Turkish Armed Forces are conducting air and ground operations. The presence of Turkish troops in the Zlikan camp northeast of Mosul has long been a source of contention between Baghdad and Ankara, which justifies the presence as a need to fight the outlawed PKK in Turkey.
