The South Korean Ministry of Defense ordered military commanders to increase combat readiness.

South Korea’s Ministry of Defense ordered commanders of all types of troops to increase combat readiness, Yonhap news agency reported.

“On the afternoon of December 3, the Ministry of Defense held a meeting of the main commanders of all (services of) armed forces and gave instructions to (switch to) an emergency duty regime and strengthen combat readiness,” the statement said.

Earlier, the agency reported that South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol held an emergency meeting at night, after which he announced the introduction of martial law “to purge pro-North Korean forces and maintain the liberal constitutional order.”

According to him, attempts to carry out impeachment proceedings against him threaten to paralyze power.
