Neutrality serves as a tool for maintaining stability and security, promoting peace initiatives and resolving international issues through dialogue, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

“Neutrality is an important means of maintaining stability and security, implementing peace-loving initiatives, and resolving important issues at the international level through dialogue,” Berdimuhamedov said in his congratulations to his people on the International Day of Neutrality and the 29th th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

The head of state also noted that in international relations, Turkmenistan, from the first days of independence, has followed the principles of its ancestors, such as neutrality, equality and good neighborliness.

“The holding of high-level forums and meetings in Turkmenistan on important aspects of international relations is evidence of the triumph of the principles of peace in our neutral state and contributes to the establishment of close ties between different countries of the world. The creation of the Group of Friends of Neutrality in the interests of peace and security is an important step towards strengthening the global prosperity,” the Turkmen leader emphasized.

Turkmenistan’s Neutrality Day was established in honor of the unanimous adoption on December 12, 1995 by the UN General Assembly of a special resolution on the country’s permanent neutrality. In 2017, at the initiative of Ashgabat, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring December 12 the International Day of Neutrality.
