Brazil evacuated its embassy in Damascus.

Brazilian authorities announced the evacuation of the country’s embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus.

“The Planalto Palace (the working residence of the President of Brazil) ordered the country’s embassy in Damascus to evacuate,”  the Brazilian media reported.

As part of the evacuation, in which the UN will participate, embassy staff will be sent to Lebanon. It is noted that “one local official” will most likely be left at the embassy.

Brazil’s G1 portal also confirms that the Brazilian Embassy in Damascus will “technically remain open.”

Earlier, representatives of the armed opposition in Syria, who seized state television, went on air with the assertion that they had established control over the country. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that he remains in the country with several ministers, but they do not know where the Minister of Defense is. The prime minister also said that he had established contact with the leadership of the armed opposition.
