In London, farmers gather on tractors to protest against a new tax.

Hundreds of farmers on tractors are protesting in central London against a tax on inherited agricultural land, Sky News reported on Wednesday.

In November, more than 10,000 farmers demonstrated in central London to protest against the new tax. The host of the TV show about cars Top Gear, journalist Jeremy Clarkson, as well as leaders of opposition parties joined the action. Many British politicians, including former prime ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, expressed support for the farmers.

“Hundreds of farmers are taking to the streets near Westminster on their tractors today to express their anger over inheritance tax changes,” the broadcaster reported.

London police said tractors had already begun arriving in the government quarter of Whitehall.
The protesters will give speeches, after which they will slowly drive through the central streets of the British capital, Sky News reports.

Earlier, the British Treasury announced the introduction of a 20% tax on inherited agricultural land if its value exceeds 1 million pounds sterling (about $1.3 million). British authorities said that the innovations would apply to 500 farms and would affect a minority of farmers. Farming association National Farmers Union (NFU) estimates that 66% of farms will actually be affected by the tax changes. The changes are expected to come into force in April 2026.
