The Red Cross continues to provide humanitarian assistance in Syria.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) continues to provide humanitarian assistance in Syria, according to a statement from the organization.

“The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is closely monitoring the latest developments and the humanitarian situation in Syria… The IFRC is deeply committed to continuing to provide humanitarian assistance,” a statement on the organization’s website reads.

According to the statement, Syrian Arab Red Crescent branches throughout the country continue to supply food, water and basic necessities to citizens, provide emergency medical care, as well as supply medicines and clean, safe water to hospitals.

Earlier, representatives of the armed opposition in Syria, who seized state television, went on air with the assertion that they had established control over the country. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that he remains in the country with several ministers, but they do not know where the Minister of Defense is. The prime minister also said that he had established contact with the leadership of the armed opposition.
