The President of Argentina officially rejected the invitation to join BRICS.

Argentine President Javier Miley rejected the invitation to become a member of BRICS.

“Javier Miley <…> a few days ago sent official letters to Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, in which he announced Argentina’s withdrawal from the BRICS multilateral forum,” Argentine media says.

The head of state also informed the President of Brazil Lula da Silva, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the leader of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa about this decision.

Miley has repeatedly stated that in his foreign policy he intends to focus on ties with Washington, and not on the BRICS countries. According to him, Buenos Aires should abandon the peso and join countries that use the US dollar as their official currency, as well as abolish the Central Bank and several ministries, reducing the government apparatus.

In recent days, rallies have been held in the center of Buenos Aires against the reforms planned by the country’s new president. Miley himself threatened to use force against protesters who would block traffic.
