Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has accused Vice President Veronica Abad of betraying him and trying to prevent him from running in the next elections over a statement in which she accused him of “political violence.”
⠀
“She wants to remove the President of the Republic from power in order to take this post herself. If there were any doubts about her intentions, then today the mask has finally fallen. And not only that, the people behind this complaint want me not to participate in election campaign,” Noboa said in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page.
⠀
According to Noboa, Abad represents the “old Ecuador”, which they promised to reform before the elections. “We will fight against this betrayal of the will of the people, and rest assured, we will meet in the elections,” the head of state wrote. The next presidential elections will be held in Ecuador in 2025.
⠀
Earlier, Abad filed a complaint against Noboa in the Electoral Disputes Court, in which she accused the head of state of “political violence based on gender.”
⠀
In her opinion, the president has “limited her participation as a woman in decision-making regarding public policy” and is “trying to completely remove her from the public life of the country.” In his complaint, Abad asks the court to remove Noboa from office.

Abad and Noboa ran together, but disagreed after the election. After the inauguration on November 23 last year, the head of state instructed his deputy to travel to the Middle East to help resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The vice president accepted the appointment, reproaching Noboa for deliberately trying to get her out of the country.
