“The Czech government will invite the French company EDF and the Korean company KHNP, which are participating in the tender for the construction of a nuclear unit at the Dukovany nuclear power plant, to submit binding proposals for the construction of up to four new reactors by April 15. On the contrary, the American company will no longer participate in the competition Westinghouse, whose offer did not meet the terms of the tender,” the prime minister said.

There are two nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic: Dukovany and Temelin, both built with the assistance of Soviet specialists. Dukovany NPP was launched in 1985-1987. It has four power units with a total capacity of 2040 megawatts; recently the third unit of the station was stopped for the planned replacement of some fuel and technical and preventative work. The Temelin nuclear power plant was launched in 2002. It consists of two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with a total capacity of 2160 megawatts.
