The White House is already preparing a farewell ceremony for former US President Jimmy Carter, which will be held in Washington,  current American leader Joe Biden said.

“We’re going to have a big service in Washington, D.C.,” Biden said during an address to the nation, adding that preparations are already underway.

Biden previously declared January 9, 2025, a day of national mourning in connection with the death of former President Jimmy Carter. He also decided to fly all US flags at half-staff in government buildings inside and outside the country, including military bases and diplomatic missions, for 30 days.

Carter, who died at the age of 100, is going to be laid out for a 36-hour farewell at the center he founded in Atlanta, Georgia, and then transported by plane to Washington for the traditional farewell ceremony for presidents, which will be broadcast on TV, the New newspaper reports. According to the newspaper, Carter’s body will be on display at the Capitol for a day and a half, followed by a memorial ceremony at the Washington Cathedral. He will then be airlifted back to Georgia, where his remains will be interred in the family plot in Plains, where he is from.
