Switzerland was elected OSCE chairman for 2026.

Switzerland has been elected chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for 2026, the Swiss Foreign Ministry announced.

Earlier in December, Switzerland announced that it was putting forward its candidacy.

“Switzerland was elected chairman of the OSCE for 2026. We thank the participating states for their trust,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a publication on the social network X.

Switzerland believes that dialogue and cooperation are necessary to develop sustainable solutions for the future.

Switzerland is not a member of the EU or NATO, but Bern has joined almost all European sanctions against the Russian Federation since February 24, 2022. Bern has frozen $8.8 billion in private Russian assets as part of sanctions. The Swiss government also reported that about 7.4 billion Swiss francs of assets of the Russian Central Bank (about $8.45 billion) are frozen in the country and that Bern is closely following international discussions on the issue of confiscation of frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank and the state.
