Ethiopia has applied to join the BRICS

According to recent media reports, Ethiopia has applied to join the BRICS.

“We have applied for membership and hope for a good result. Since we strive to guarantee our national interests, it is important to join such blocs as BRICS,” the diplomat said.

BRICS unites Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Algeria, Argentina, Iran, Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have also expressed their desire to join the economic bloc.

The official application to join the BRICS was submitted in June. The expansion of the bloc will be discussed at the upcoming summit in Johannesburg in August.
South Africa received the BRICS presidency from China earlier this year. It will last until the end of 2023, and then it will be transferred to Russia.
