The Palestinian movement Hamas is counting on the frivolity of US President Donald Trump’s statements on the resettlement of Palestinians and will not allow American forces to enter Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri, a representative of the movement, said in an interview with the Turkish pro-government newspaper Hurriyet.

“We hope that these words are not serious. We have been fighting against the Israeli occupation for many years and, of course, we will not allow a new occupation. We consider Trump’s statements to be unfair and insulting to our people, and we will not allow Trump’s forces to enter Gaza under any circumstances,” he said.

According to Abu Zuhri, Hamas is proposing to create an alliance “to counter Trump’s behavior and prevent his attempts to govern and attack Gaza on his own.”
⠀
“This alliance should convey to Trump the idea that the peoples of this region are not property and that if he wants to protect American interests, he must respect their sovereignty and rights,” the Hamas representative explained.

This week, Trump said that the United States would “take control” of the Gaza Strip and be responsible for reconstruction work in the region, as well as turn it into a “Middle Eastern riviera” for the whole world. At the same time, he called the current Gaza Strip a “demolition site” and said that its residents should leave for other countries forever, offering Jordan or Egypt for their residence. He also did not rule out that the United States could send its army to Gaza, and promised that he would visit the sector personally.
