Beijing will take response measures for duties introduced by US President Donald Trump for goods from China, the Ministry of Commerce of the country said on its website.
⠀
“In response to erroneous actions by the United States, China will file a lawsuit in the WTO and accept the appropriate countermeasures for decisive protection of its rights and interests,” the department said.
⠀
Trump on Saturday signed a decree on the introduction of duties on goods from Canada, Mexico and China. At the same time, the document allows the possibility of increasing duties if any of the countries that have fallen under its action introduces retaliatory measures.
⠀
The ministry noted that the unilateral introduction of tariffs by Washington violates the WTO rules and damages trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
⠀
“China expresses strong discontent in this regard and opposes decisively against,” the statement said.
⠀
In Beijing, Washington was called to correct the mistake and “move towards China.”
⠀
The response to the introduction of duties was announced by the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. According to him, Ottawa considers non -tariff countermeasures against Washington, including in the field of critical minerals and energy.
⠀
Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum, in turn, instructed to use “tariff and non tariff measures” to protect the interests of the country. She denied the statements of the White House about the relations of Mexico City with criminal organizations, and also condemned a possible invasion of Mexican territory.
⠀
Trump said that Canada is responsible for significant amounts of drug smuggling in the United States. Also, according to him, they fall into the country through the territory of Mexico, and China produces them.
⠀
In addition, the politician argued that drug cartels announced by terrorists are in alliance with the Mexican government and jeopardize national security and public healthcare of the United States.

As the Wall Street Journal wrote, new duties can undermine the global trading system and cause serious damage to the main sectors of the American economy, including the automotive industry, thereby opening up new opportunities for China in international markets.
