Trudo warned the United States about return measures in case of increasing duties

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has warned the United States of potential retaliatory measures if the U.S. proceeds with plans to increase tariffs on Canadian goods. The warning comes in response to U.S.

President Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional duties of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico, effective February 1, citing concerns over the influx of illegal migrants and drugs from these countries.

Trudeau emphasized Canada’s firm stance, stating, “We will not back down if tariffs are imposed on Canada. We will not rest until these tariffs are lifted. All possible response measures are being considered.”

His remarks were made during a press conference, which was broadcast on YouTube.

The Canadian Prime Minister also highlighted that his government has already addressed U.S. concerns, which Trump cited as justification for the proposed tariffs. Trudeau noted that less than 1% of fentanyl and illegal immigrants entering the U.S. come through the northern border with Canada.

In related news, Trudeau recently announced his intention to step down as Prime Minister following the election of a new leader for the Liberal Party of Canada. Having served as Prime Minister for a decade, Trudeau’s tenure will conclude after the party leadership vote on March 9, which will determine his successor as head of government.
