Uruguay’s President-elect Orsi has called for national dialogue.

Uruguay’s President-elect Orsi has called for national dialogue.

The candidate of the opposition centre-left Broad Front coalition, Yamandu Orsi, who won the presidential election in Uruguay, called for a national dialogue to solve problems.

“I will be the president who convenes a national dialogue to find better solutions, offering our ideas but listening to what others tell us,” Orsi told supporters.

Orsi, 57, has risen to prominence in politics in recent years. The world-famous ex-head of state of Uruguayan José Mujica, nicknamed “the poorest president in the world” for his modest lifestyle and the fact that he donated most of his salary to charity, actively participated in his election campaign.

Orsi promised, like Mujica, not to move to the presidential residence, but to live at home, 50 minutes from the capital.

The main idea of the Orsi campaign is to unite the country: the capital with the regions, industry with agriculture, production with science.

His program is focused on three main areas – promoting economic growth, addressing the country’s security problems and reforming the social protection sector.
