District police in New York, following media reports about a bomb threat in the home of Judge Arthur Engoron, who is considering a civil lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump, told that they were investigating the incident of “swatting” – a false report of a serious incident in the area residence of the “victim”.

Earlier on Thursday, Engoron denied former US President Donald Trump the right to make a closing statement in a hearing in a civil fraud case against the former US leader. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The New York Times, citing police in Nassau County, part of New York, writes about a police investigation in Engoron’s house. Media sources confirmed that the incident concerned a bomb threat, and a bomb disposal team was working at the scene of the emergency. It is unclear whether the incident will delay the proceedings, the newspaper adds.

Nassau County police, commenting on media reports, said that law enforcement officers were investigating a “swatting incident,” without providing any details.
In these cases, fraudsters use “swatting” tactics (from the English SWAT – special forces). Scammers mislead the police by reporting any serious incident. Often, reinforced squads of law enforcement officers respond to calls. The scammers hope that their “victim” may suffer in the chaos.

Judges in Trump cases are not the first to receive various threats. For example, on Monday, as American media reported, Tanya Chutkan, who is presiding over the case against former US President Donald Trump for storming the Capitol, became a victim of telephone hooligans who falsely called the police to her home.
