The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the German state of Lower Saxony spoke about the flood.

Almost the entire German federal state of Lower Saxony is under water, the flood situation there remains very tense, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region, Daniela Behrens, told Deutschlandfunk radio.

Germany has faced widespread flooding in recent days caused by heavy rains. Meteorologists’ forecasts remain alarming: showers in Germany stopped on Thursday, only to resume on Friday.

“Almost the entire state of Lower Saxony is under water. Our situation is very tense,” Behrens said.

She also condemned people insulting emergency services for their actions and stealing sandbags used to strengthen dams. “If the dam is not strengthened, then there is no point in protecting houses,” Behrens said, commenting on the relevant statements of the fire services.

In general, the situation in Lower Saxony on Friday only became more complicated: according to Bild, the condition of three dams is of particular concern: near Meppen, Ferden and Lilienthal, where leaks were already recorded the day before yesterday.

On the other hand, over the past 24 hours the situation has improved somewhat in Saxony and, in particular, Dresden, where the historical center was under threat of flooding.
