Brazil to purchase 100 mln doses of Sinovac vaccine

Brazil’s fight against the novel virus continues, the government will acquire 100 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Sinovac in 2021, Bernama said quoting Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello.

In its efforts to curb the coronavirus in Brazil, the health ministry specified that the anti-COVID vaccine plans to be produced by the local Butantan Institute.

“Today (on Thursday) we signed a contract with Butantan Institute to purchase first 46 million doses by April and 54 million doses throughout the year,” Eduardo Pazuello tol journalists.

All Sinovac vaccines that have been already in Brazil’s Butantan Institute will be used for the national immunisation programme. The drug plans to be distributed on an equitable and proportional basis among all Brazilian states.

According to the health minister, Brazil also expects to receive 254 million doses of the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca/Oxford University. These doses will be produced by Rio de Janeiro-based Oswaldo Cruz Foundation.
