A representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the Kyrgyz Republic Adnan Quereshi had a meeting with the top official. The agenda included the joint projects in the Central Asian country amid the coronacrisis, Akipress reports.
Adnan Quereshi was appointed as the FAO official to Kyrgyzstan in September. Since then, he met with the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Nuran Niyazaliev. After Quereshi has presented his credentials to the leadership of the MFA of KR, the work starts.
During the recent meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and FAO. The UN body remains one of the key international NGOs providing assistance to the development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In the Republic, FAO helps in the implementation of projects aimed at reducing poverty and ensuring food security in rural areas. In foreseeable future, the cooperation will strengthen, said Quereshi. Amid coronacrisis, the issue of joint implementation of measures within the UN to address the problems of mountain countries remains the top priority.
Mr Quereshi stressed that FAO is ready to revise a number of planned activities within the framework of current and planned projects to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic. The cooperation will definitely help to address the socio-economic challenges that have arisen.
Commenting on the joint projects, the 1st Deputy Minister thanked FAO for the support provided to the Kyrgyz Republic and expressed hope for further cooperation.
