Trump may create a commission to audit government programs.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, if he wins, is considering the possibility of creating a special commission, the leadership of which could potentially include entrepreneur Elon Musk, to conduct an audit of government programs, the Washington Post reports, citing informed sources.

Behind closed doors, former President Donald Trump and his advisers have been discussing for months the possibility of creating a commission led by prominent business leaders that would review government records and identify thousands of programs that could be cut.

As noted, Musk’s “potential participation” in the government’s regulatory and spending commission has raised concerns among ethics experts, who point to the potential for conflicts of interest.

Two sources familiar with the discussions said some Trump advisers were downplaying Musk’s potential influence if the Republican wins. In addition, other prominent businessmen have been named who could lead the commission, including former FedEx CEO Fred Smith and former Home Depot CEO Robert Nardelli.

In August, Musk said he was ready to take a position in the US government. Earlier, Western media reported that Trump, if he wins the election, will offer Elon Musk a place in his administration or a consulting position.

Previously, Musk conducted an interview with former US President Donald Trump on the Spaces platform on the social network X, and in July he published a statement on the social network X about his support for Trump in the presidential race.

The US presidential elections will take place on November 5th. Donald Trump has been officially nominated by the Republican Party for the post of head of state. Incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, who has yet to receive a formal party nomination at the upcoming convention in Chicago, plans to run as a Democratic candidate.
