The explosion that occurred in one of the powder depots of the Rheinmetall ammunition factory in the Spanish province of Murcia has no signs indicating the terrorist attack, the Rheinmetall press service said.

“The company currently does not see the signs indicating a terrorist attack,” the representative of the concern Oliver Hoffmann said.

Earlier it was reported that as a result of the explosion and the followed fire at the enterprise, six people were injured in the vicinity of the city of Murcia.

The enterprise in the village of Khalyal-Viekho was founded in the XVIII century as a factory for the production of gunpowder. Since 2010, the company has been owed by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions – a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Rheinmetall. Currently, it produces all types of shells, fuses, sleeves and bombs. Expal supplies its products to the Turkish and Israeli armies, and is also one of the suppliers of the Spanish Armed Forces.

In December, the company reported a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for the supply of throwing charges for artillery guns with a caliber of 155 millimeters. The cost of the order placed in the fourth quarter of 2024 is about 9 million euros.
It is provided for the supply of several tens of thousands of caliber modules of 155 millimeters of various types. They were supposed to be delivered in January 2025.
