The US Space Force may create a new command in Japan.

The US Space Force is considering the possibility of creating a new command in Japan against the backdrop of the development of Chinese military programs, as well as the nuclear and missile programs of the DPRK, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing a statement by the commander of the US Space Force, Bradley Chance Salzman.

“We are currently at the planning stage in order to determine what exactly this command will do,” the agency quotes him as saying.

Earlier on Monday, Salzman met with Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara, during which the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in the space sector. The Japanese minister noted that “against the backdrop of a deteriorating security situation, partnership with the US Space Force will become increasingly important” as Japan strengthens its capabilities in this area. In turn, Salzman also noted the high importance of cooperation between countries in the space sector for further strengthening the Japanese-American alliance.
