The United States imposes duties on countries that purchase oil and gas from Venezuela

US President Donald Trump on Monday announced that from April 2 he would impose a 25% duty on third countries that purchase oil and gas from Venezuela, amid the fact that Caracas allegedly secretly sent criminals to the United States.

“Any country that buys oil and/or gas from Venezuela will be forced to pay a 25% duty to the United States on any trade they conduct with our country. All documentation will be signed and registered, and the duty will take effect on April 2, 2025,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.

The United States will continue to send migrants back to Venezuela, including those who allegedly have links to the Tren de Aragua criminal group, which was recently designated a terrorist organization in the United States, Trump said.

Earlier on Monday, Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said that almost 200 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States had arrived in Venezuela. This is the fourth flight with Venezuelans deported from the United States.

Venezuela interrupted the reception of migrants due to the temporary revocation of the license from the Chevron oil company, which allows it to operate in the Bolivarian Republic.

Flights resumed amid strained relations between Venezuela and the United States in connection with the deportation to El Salvador of 238 Venezuelan migrants who, upon arrival, were placed in a terrorist detention center as suspected of having links to the Tren de Aragua criminal group.

Earlier, Caracas condemned the actions of the United States and El Salvador and assured that it would do everything necessary to guarantee the return of its citizens to Venezuela.
