The UN Secretary General from the rostrum of the General Assembly called for peace in Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for peace in Ukraine, saying civilians are paying the price for ongoing fighting.

“The war in Ukraine is spreading and shows no sign of abating. Civilians are paying the price with rising death tolls and lives and communities destroyed. It is time for a just peace based on the UN Charter, international law and UN resolutions,” Guterres said in a speech at the general debate of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly.

One of the key topics for discussion among country leaders during the high week will be the Ukrainian crisis. At the same time, not only its diplomatic settlement will probably be discussed, but also further escalation: a number of media outlets believe that the United States and Great Britain at the General Assembly may give the go-ahead for Kyiv to strike deep into Russia.
