The growth in the number of cases of influenza virus infection in China is slowing down, and there is no shortage of medical resources, Hu Qiangqiang, an official representative of the PRC State Committee for Health Affairs, said at a press conference.
⠀
Earlier, information appeared in the media that an outbreak of human metapneumovirus was recorded in China, causing concern among doctors.
⠀
“According to the recently released acute respiratory infection monitoring data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza was in the seasonal phase in the first week of 2025, with the increase in the number of influenza virus cases slowing down,” Hu Qiangqiang said.
⠀
He said the rate of positive flu virus cases reported in emergency departments and outpatient departments across the country increased by 3.8% compared to last week, “which is lower than the same period last year.”
⠀
“It is expected that influenza activity may gradually decline during the middle to end of this month, but the level of influenza activity varies by province,” he said.
⠀
At the same time, Hu Qiangqiang emphasized that “there is currently no shortage of medical resources, production, supplies and stocks of key drugs are at normal levels.”
⠀
Metapneumovirus can manifest itself as a runny nose, cough, fever, difficulty breathing and other symptoms characteristic of respiratory diseases.
