Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze accused the country’s President Salome Zurabishvili of treason.

“The unity of the people and their elected government and meaningful steps have given us the opportunity over the past two years to maintain peace in the country, despite existential threats and various betrayals, including the betrayal of the president. The recent history of Georgia and the processes in the modern world have shown us especially clearly that sovereignty is the most effective guarantee of the country’s security,” Kobakhidze said, speaking at an event on the occasion of Independence Day.

As the Prime Minister emphasized, it is now especially important for Georgia to protect its state independence.

“Today, more than ever, we must take care of each other and defeat hatred, since only with love can we build what was destroyed by hostility,” he noted.

In turn, Zurabishvili, speaking to military personnel and representatives of the Georgian leadership, criticized the actions of the country’s authorities. She once again repeated that the upcoming parliamentary elections in October will determine the country’s course – European or pro-Russian.

Georgia celebrates Independence Day on May 26. Ceremonial events take place in the morning in all cities of the republic. Especially on this day, more than 400 recruits took the oath and officially enlisted in the ranks of the Georgian army. The oath ceremony, in addition to Tbilisi, took place in parallel in various historical places in Georgia. Georgian Independence Day is a national holiday celebrated annually on May 26. On this day in 1918, after secession from the Russian Empire, the Georgian Democratic Republic was proclaimed.
