The EU does not expect a joint statement with China following the December 7 summit.

The conflict in Ukraine will be one of the priority topics at the upcoming EU-China summit on December 7, but Brussels does not expect a significant convergence of positions on this issue, so they emphasize that a joint statement is not expected following the meeting, a high-ranking European source told reporters.

“We did not have a general statement at the last summit. Therefore, we will continue to act according to this plan – without a general statement. China will probably do the same… You understand that we have sensitive issues on which there are different positions, last but not least, this is the conflict in Ukraine, so there is no need to wait for a general statement, we will make a statement on our part,” he said.

The source noted that the EU plans to discuss with Beijing, in particular, the influence on Russia in the issue of the Ukrainian conflict, the “peace formula” of Vladimir Zelensky, as well as “the possible influence of China on the DPRK” due to Pyongyang’s alleged military assistance to Russia.
