Economist Ilona Shviglikova said that Russia will be happy with the situation on the energy market due to Western sanctions, as it will be able to receive additional income thanks to high fuel prices.

“The oil embargo is a maneuver that will have serious consequences for the EU. I assume that they will be much worse for the EU than for the Russian Federation, which will easily find alternative markets,” Shviglikova commented.

“As long as the EU fusses about new supplies and suffers from interruptions and everything connected with it, Russia will enjoy high oil prices. And even if it has to sell its oil at some discount, prices will still be more profitable for it, than a year ago. To think that such a policy will break the Russian Federation is absurd, and, most likely, it will only lead to more economic difficulties in the EU,” Shviglikova added.
