Spanish police have uncovered a criminal network that trafficked bodies.

Spain’s National Police say they have busted an alleged criminal network that illegally obtained dead bodies and sold them to universities.

“National police agents dismantled a criminal network in Valencia related to the sale of bodies. They falsified documents to collect bodies from hospitals and nursing homes, and then sold them to universities for study at a price of 1.2 thousand euros per body,” police press release says.

It is noted that the criminals were looking for the deceased who had no relatives, preferably foreigners.

It is added that one university paid the organization more than five thousand euros to burn 11 bodies after studying them, but not a single crematorium in Valencia has data on these cremations. Police suspect that the alleged criminals dismembered the bodies and carried out only one cremation procedure to save money.
