The royal from the now-defunct Serbian monarchy has donated much-needed medical equipment to 17 hospitals throughout the country, Express reported.
Being the wife of Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, the heir to Serbia’s former throne, Princess Katherine decided to stretch the hand of help to the medical system. Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the royal has donated £450,000 worth of medical supplies like the Stryker electric beds, mattresses and protective equipment to the hospitals across the country.
Crown Princess Katherine provides support through her Princess Katherine Foundation. The royal family Karadjordjevics ruled Yugoslavia until communists took power after the Second World War and abolished the monarchy.
Now, both royals are in voluntary quarantine in their castle outside Belgrade but are continuing with their charity work throughout the outbreak.
Through the Foundation, the Crown Prince also organised the donation of free meals to medical staff fighting coronavirus in KBC Zvezdara and Zemun hospitals in Belgrade.
In addition, Princess Katherine helped to secure accommodation for doctors working at the Clinical Centre of Serbia who are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19.
Commenting on her donation, Princess Katherine said in the statement that doctors and nurses are risking their lives to save lives, so, the royals are ready to help them. “They are our heroes,” Katherine added.
According to the royal, doctors and nurses are Serbian everyday heroes and people thank them from for the professional care and compassion from the bottom of the heart.
In 1993, Crown Princess Katherine also founded the Lifeline Humanitarian Organisation which currently has offices in Chicago, New York, Toronto, London and Athens.
As patron of the charity, she co-hosted an online fundraising concert as a call to action during the COVID-19 crisis earlier this month.
