Argentine President Javier Miley, commenting on the cryptocurrency scandal that has arisen around him, said that he could not be responsible for people’s decisions to invest in various projects.
⠀
Last week, Miley posted information about one of the cryptocurrencies on the social network X, which led to an increase in its value, which later fell. The publication provoked criticism of the president, as many decided to invest in the currency and lost money. Miley later deleted the message, stating that he was not familiar with the details of the project and therefore decided not to continue spreading information about it. Argentina’s opposition has said it will push for the impeachment of the president. More than a hundred lawsuits have been filed against the president, including to the US Department of Justice, where he is accused of fraud and corruption.
⠀
“Those who participated in this (in investing in cryptocurrency) did it voluntarily. This is a problem between private individuals, the state does not play any role here,” Miley said in an interview with TN TV channel.
⠀
He stressed that he did not promote the new cryptocurrency, but only disseminated information about it and did so with the best of intentions.
⠀
According to Miley, the fact that the publication on his social networks appeared just three minutes after the launch of the cryptocurrency is not strange: he found the information interesting, and he published it.
⠀
Miley replied negatively to a question about whether he received money for the publication.
In addition, the president said that he had learned some lessons from the incident.
⠀
“We need to install filters so that it’s not so easy to access me,” Miley, who met with project managers before launching the cryptocurrency, said.
