The Finnish President urged not to exclude Ukraine’s membership in NATO

Finnish President Alexander Stubb urged not to exclude the possibility of Ukraine’s membership in NATO and called joining the EU a given for Kiev.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that he had no objections to the statement by Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth about the unlikely membership of Ukraine in NATO. According to Trump, former US President Joe Biden made a mistake when he said that Ukraine could join NATO, which led to an escalation of the conflict.

“We should not exclude Ukraine’s membership in NATO from the agenda, because the truth is that a sovereign state can decide which membership to apply for, and then the organization must approve it or not. I think that Ukraine’s membership in the EU is a given, and then, in the long term, membership in NATO,” Stubb said.

Stubb expressed the opinion that Russia, Ukraine, the United States and Europe should participate in negotiations on a peaceful settlement.
