Macron announced the strengthening of the military presence of France on the eastern flank of NATO

The French army will strengthen the military presence on the eastern flank of NATO. This was announced by President Emmanuel Macron at a press conference following the summit of the North Atlantic bloc in Madrid.

“The eastern flank of NATO will be strengthened by the French military contingent,” the French leader said.

Earlier, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana said that the North Atlantic Alliance has the right to strengthen its position on the eastern flank. He noted that the bloc has the right to no longer adhere to the agreement concluded with the Russian Federation.

Recall that since 2021, Russia has been seeking NATO’s refusal to expand to the east. In January of this year, Moscow was negotiating with the alliance on security guarantees. One of Russia’s demands is to return NATO to its 1997 positions.
